Judge Frees Robber, He Attacks 5 Women in 30 Min!

In yet another alarming example of the failures in New York City’s criminal justice system, 31-year-old Jason Ayala allegedly launched a disturbing crime spree just a day after being released without bail. The incident raises fresh concerns about the city’s “revolving door” approach to justice, as NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch warned.

Ayala, already facing charges for two separate robberies, was released by Judge Robert Rosenthal despite the severity of his alleged crimes. Ayala had been accused of attacking two men, aged 61 and 51, on January 12 and stealing a cell phone from one of the victims. Second-degree robbery, a charge eligible for bail, didn’t stop Judge Rosenthal—appointed by former Mayor Bill de Blasio—from putting Ayala back on the streets.

According to reports, he first targeted a 14-year-old girl, grabbing her buttocks in the lobby of one building. Minutes later, Ayala was accused of assaulting a 35-year-old woman in a separate complex.
