House Speaker Mike Johnson is warning Republicans that the outcome of the November midterm elections could have major consequences for President Donald Trump’s remaining time in office. Johnson argues that if Democrats retake the House of Representatives, another impeachment battle could quickly move to the forefront of Washington politics.
During an interview earlier this month with Scott Jennings, a former George W. Bush administration official and CNN conservative commentator, Johnson predicted that Democrats would waste little time pursuing another attempt to remove Trump from office.
“It’s guaranteed, probably on the first day—first or second day,” Johnson said, pointing to impeachment resolutions that have already been introduced in the current Congress.
The speaker reinforced his warning by noting that lawmakers have already taken steps toward another impeachment effort.
