In the aftermath of one of the most catastrophic hurricanes to ever hit the southeastern United States, the Biden administration faces criticism for its lack of action in providing additional assistance to affected areas. Hurricane Helene, a Category 4 storm, struck Florida’s Big Bend region with unprecedented force, causing widespread devastation across six states. As families continue to struggle in the disaster zone, many are left wondering where the federal response is.

Hurricane Helene unleashed deadly winds and torrential rains, leading to at least 95 confirmed fatalities across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. North Carolina was hit particularly hard, with at least 36 confirmed deaths, while South Carolina has reported 25 casualties, including two firefighters who tragically lost their lives in Saluda County.

Georgia is mourning 17 victims, including two residents of Alamo who perished in a tornado that accompanied the hurricane. In Florida, 11 lives were lost, many of them in Pinellas County, where flash floods engulfed entire neighborhoods. Tennessee and Virginia, while less impacted, reported a combined six deaths.
