A quiet Illinois community is reeling after a beloved mother was killed in a horrific head-on crash — a tragedy that authorities say was caused by an illegal immigrant with a disturbing criminal record that spans years.
The fatal wreck took place just after noon on August 9 along Illinois Route 26 near Oneco Road in Stephenson County. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 61-year-old Darcy Connolly-Brunner was behind the wheel of her Ford Edge when 30-year-old Rolando Ico-Choc veered over the center line in a Nissan Altima, smashing directly into her vehicle. The violent collision claimed both their lives instantly.
Officials confirmed that no other passengers were involved, but the emotional toll on the community is immeasurable. Connolly-Brunner, a longtime resident of Stephenson County, was a mother of four — including local basketball legend Sophie Brunner, whose athletic career took her from high school stardom to the WNBA.
