Illegal Immigrant Shot During Family Carjacking Attempt

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

Authorities say Ramirez abandoned the wrecked vehicle near a gas station before allegedly trying to steal multiple cars from frightened drivers in the parking lot. When those attempts failed, police said he sprinted across the street toward a nearby convenience store where a family of eight had stopped in their vehicle.

That is when the chaos escalated.

Surveillance footage obtained by FOX 4 Dallas reportedly showed Ramirez aggressively pulling the father out of the driver’s seat while members of the family desperately tried to escape the vehicle.

In the shocking footage, one small child can reportedly be seen scrambling from the back seat and running away as panic erupted around the car.

Police said Ramirez then climbed into the driver’s seat and attempted to take control of the vehicle while family members were still trying to get clear.

At that point, the father opened fire from the passenger side of the vehicle, striking Ramirez.

Authorities said Ramirez was transported to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.

Miraculously, no innocent bystanders or family members were hurt during the terrifying confrontation.

Police noted that the father remained at the scene, fully cooperated with investigators, and was not charged in the shooting.

Garland Police officials indicated the evidence strongly pointed toward a clear case of self-defense.

Lt. Pedro Barineau told reporters the incident “seemed to be self-defense,” while emphasizing how quickly the violent encounter unfolded.

“it kind of all happened like really fast,” Barineau explained.

Officials also pointed out that although Ramirez was reportedly unarmed, the father had no way of knowing whether the suspect was carrying a weapon during the violent attack.

Police stated Ramirez was “using force” during the confrontation, creating what investigators described as an immediate threat to the family.

Meanwhile, a nearby business employee who witnessed the chaos firsthand described Ramirez as behaving erratically moments before the deadly confrontation.

Tatiana Starks, who manages the Garland Smoke and Vape shop near the scene, told FOX 4 she initially saw Ramirez attempting to break into vehicles at the gas station after the crash.

She began recording the bizarre behavior on her phone but stopped filming once Ramirez headed toward the family’s vehicle.

According to Starks, she briefly made eye contact with Ramirez and immediately sensed something was terribly wrong.

“You could definitely tell that he was not in his right state of mind,” Starks said.

The witness also expressed relief that the family survived the encounter unharmed.

“I’m just glad that the man was able to protect himself and his family. … It’s just a blessing that the kids and the family walked away with no injuries,” she added.

The Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement have reportedly been contacted regarding Ramirez’s immigration history, though additional details had not yet been released at the time of reporting.

The disturbing episode is already fueling fresh criticism from conservatives who argue that weak immigration enforcement continues putting American families at risk.

For one Texas father, however, the debate became horrifyingly real in an instant — and his quick response may have saved the lives of his wife and children.
