A shocking and deeply disturbing case out of Virginia is reigniting the national debate over border enforcement and so-called sanctuary policies, after an illegal immigrant was charged in the brutal death of his own infant daughter.
Authorities in Fairfax County say 28-year-old Misael Lopez Gomez now faces serious charges after the tragic death of his 3-month-old child. According to local reports, Lopez Gomez is currently being held without bond as the investigation continues to unfold.
Federal immigration officials are now stepping in, warning that the case highlights what they describe as dangerous consequences tied to policies that limit cooperation between local authorities and immigration enforcement. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has formally requested that local officials ensure the suspect remains in custody and is not released back into the community.
In a sharply worded statement, the Department of Homeland Security did not mince words, saying ICE is “asking Virginia sanctuary politicians to not release a criminal illegal alien from jail back onto the streets after he allegedly murdered his three-month-old daughter in cold blood,” the DHS release said.
