Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin says federal investigators are digging into allegations surrounding Rep. Ilhan Omar’s immigration history — and he suggested the inquiry could ultimately have serious consequences if investigators establish that federal law was broken.
Speaking with conservative commentator Benny Johnson at the 2026 Republican Midterm Convention on Thursday, Mullin addressed the years-old controversy involving Omar and Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
Critics of the Minnesota Democrat have long alleged that Elmi, whom Omar married in 2009, was actually her biological brother and that the marriage was connected to an effort to help him with his immigration status.
