Once again, the mainstream media thought they had found the perfect weapon to use against President Trump and his America First immigration policies.
With breathless coverage and no regard for facts, they rushed out a tragic tale meant to stir outrage and paint ICE as a heartless enforcer.
But this time, the entire narrative collapsed under the weight of cold, hard truth — and the left-wing press was forced to eat their words.
On July 20, The Morning Call, a small newspaper out of Pennsylvania, dropped what looked like a tailor-made anti-Trump story. According to them, an 82-year-old named Luis Leon had been secretly deported to Guatemala after visiting a Philadelphia immigration office to replace his green card.
The story painted Leon as a frail, law-abiding grandfather who had lived quietly in the U.S. for decades after escaping tyranny in Chile. The article even floated the wild claim that Leon had died in ICE custody — only to later be found alive in a Guatemalan hospital.
Predictably, far-left outlets like Occupy Democrats, The Guardian, and The Daily Beast pounced on the story. Twitter (now X) exploded. One viral post gained over 6.5 million views as liberals went into full-blown meltdown.
