The revelation provides a troubling update on the health of the former president, who is 83. Biden’s diagnosis was initially made public in May 2025, only months after he departed the White House.
Hunter, Biden’s sole surviving son, spoke candidly about the toll his father’s condition has taken on the family. He suggested that Biden has not complained much despite the seriousness of his illness.
“The only thing that I’d say about my dad, about his health right now, is I wish he would complain more, because it’s not good,” he added, further describing the situation as “really ad to watch.”
Even as the former president deals with the progression of the disease, Hunter said Biden has continued to remain engaged with public life.
“He’s still doing his thing,” Hunter Biden said. “He so believes in this country.”
Hunter also emphasized the role his father continues to play within the Biden family, portraying the former president as a deeply important figure to his children and grandchildren.
“My dad is, to this day, the center of our family. He’s the best father, the best husband, the best grandfather.”
Biden’s office first disclosed his prostate cancer diagnosis in May 2025. At the time, the former president had sought medical attention after experiencing worsening urinary symptoms. Doctors subsequently discovered a prostate nodule.
The diagnosis was particularly serious. Biden was found to have prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 9, along with metastasis to the bone. His office described the cancer as an aggressive form of the disease that appeared to be hormone-sensitive.
That characteristic meant doctors believed the cancer could be managed through treatment designed to slow its progression and keep the disease under control.
Treatment has continued since the initial diagnosis. In October 2025, a spokesman for Biden confirmed that the former president was receiving both radiation treatment and hormone therapy.
Biden underwent several weeks of radiation at Penn Medicine Radiation Oncology in Philadelphia. He completed that portion of his treatment later that month, marking the occasion by ringing a ceremonial bell alongside members of his medical team.
Hormone therapy has remained part of his continuing treatment plan.
Biden has also dealt with another form of cancer. In September 2025, he underwent Mohs surgery to remove cancerous skin cells.
The former president’s condition has required continued monitoring, with his family providing occasional updates about his health.

Biden may no longer occupy the Oval Office, but according to his son, he remains determined to stay active and engaged despite the physical challenges confronting him.
