Homan Just Revealed the Caravan’s Fate!

The development has drawn attention from U.S. officials, who have made clear that migrants attempting to enter the country unlawfully should not expect to be released into the United States.

Tom Homan, the White House border czar, addressed the situation during an appearance on Fox News, delivering a direct warning to those considering making the journey.

“I can tell you they won’t be released into the United States,” Homan said. “We’re at almost 17 months of not a single illegal alien being released to the border, and that’s not going to change.”

Homan also outlined the potential consequences for people who attempt to cross the border illegally, including being turned around, arrested, prosecuted or deported.

“They’ll be immediately turned around, or they’ll be arrested and prosecuted and deported, maybe deported to a third country, maybe not their home country,” he said.

He added that the United States could pursue deportation to another destination if a migrant’s country of origin was slow to accept their return.

“We’ll send them to another country. We have many to choose from.”

Homan’s comments underscore the administration’s stated approach: preventing unlawful entry and pursuing removal rather than releasing migrants into the country while their immigration cases proceed.

DHS Secretary Says Caravan Will Not Be Allowed Into the United States

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin has also addressed the caravan, expressing confidence that the group will not be permitted to enter the country unlawfully.

“The caravan has zero chance of coming into our country,” Mullin said.

The administration has said federal agencies are monitoring the group’s movements and coordinating with international partners. The Department of Homeland Security has emphasized that its enforcement policies remain in place as the caravan moves through Mexico.

White House officials have delivered a similar message, warning migrants that attempting to cross the southern border unlawfully will not guarantee entry or permission to remain in the United States.

For the migrants, however, the immediate challenge remains the journey through Mexico. The caravan is still far from the U.S. border, and its size and composition could change as people join, leave or abandon the trek.

Mexican authorities have intervened in previous migrant movements, sometimes dispersing groups or relocating participants. That history makes the caravan’s eventual arrival at the U.S. border uncertain.

A Sharp Contrast With the Border Situation in December 2023

The current caravan has also revived comparisons with the record levels of migration recorded during the Biden administration.

In December 2023, U.S. Customs and Border Protection recorded approximately 302,000 encounters along the southwest border, making it a record-setting month at the time. The surge prompted a diplomatic trip to Mexico by then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who met with Mexican officials to discuss migration and border security.

The December figures illustrate the scale of the challenge facing U.S. authorities at that point. However, border encounters are not the same as the number of unique individuals entering the country, and the monthly total should not be treated as a count of people released into the United States.

The current administration says its approach is producing substantially different results. DHS has cited a prolonged period without migrants being released at the southern border, while Border Patrol figures reported for August 2026 showed 8,870 apprehensions along the southwest border.

Those figures provide context for the administration’s response to the caravan. They do not, by themselves, establish how the group will be handled if its members reach a U.S. port of entry or attempt to cross between ports.

Is the Caravan Connected to the November Midterms?

The timing of the caravan has prompted political speculation, with the November 2026 midterm elections approaching.

Some conservative commentators have suggested that the group could be seeking to take advantage of a possible change in congressional control. That interpretation has circulated in political coverage, but the available reporting does not establish that the caravan was organized to influence the U.S. elections or that its participants share a political objective.

The migrants’ own accounts offer a more direct explanation for at least some of their decisions to leave home. Reuters footage from September 24 included participants describing their hopes of reaching the United States and finding better opportunities for their families. One Honduran migrant said the group had no single person directing it and that participants were paying their own way.

That distinction matters. The caravan’s arrival during an election season is a matter of timing; claims about its organizers’ political intentions require evidence beyond the calendar.

The group also faces considerable uncertainty before it could reach the U.S. border. Its members must continue across Mexico, where immigration enforcement, difficult travel conditions and the possibility of the group breaking apart could affect their progress.

For now, the message from Washington is clear: the Trump administration says it will not permit unlawful entry and is coordinating with regional partners as it monitors the caravan.

Whether the group reaches the border in anything resembling its current form remains an open question. The next developments will depend not only on U.S. policy, but also on decisions made by Mexican authorities and the migrants themselves.

The “Faith and Hope” caravan has become another focal point in the national immigration debate. But its ultimate destination, the number of people who may reach the United States and the circumstances they will face remain unresolved.
