The parent company of Facebook and Instagram, Meta, has reactivated former President Donald Trump’s social media accounts in the wake of the Capitol rioting. His profile is now again visible to millions of people globally after spending a significant amount of time offline in accordance with platform standards that forbid political agitation.
Trump’s social media accounts will be restored, Meta declared last month, as he is no longer seen as a “serious risk to public safety.” To keep some kind of control over Trump’s tweets, Nick Clegg, the president of global affairs at Meta, promised that “new guardrails” will be put in place.

Clegg provided further information on the “guardrails” that would be put in place for Trump’s account. “Mr. Trump is subject to our Community Standards… he now also faces heightened penalties for repeat offenses – penalties which will apply to other public figures whose account are reinstated from suspensions related to civil unrest under our updated protocol.”
Clegg said in a statement, “Social media is rooted in the belief that open debate and the free flow of ideas are important values, especially at a time when they are under threat in many places around the world. As a general rule, we don’t want to get in the way of open, public, and democratic debate on Meta’s platforms- especially in the context of elections in democratic societies like the United States.”
Initiatives for censorship seem to be designed to stifle the useful ideas that emerge from opposing opinions at a time of ever-increasing pressure to adhere to specific political beliefs.
Clegg said that Meta wants the general people to be able to “hear what their politicians are saying – the good, the bad, and the ugly – so that they can make informed choices at the ballot box.”
Donald Trump turned to Truth Social to express his opinions when they said they were restoring his accounts.
“FACEBOOK, which has lost Billions of Dollars in value since “deplatforming” your favorite President, me, has just announced that they are reinstating my account. Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retribution! THANK YOU TO TRUTH SOCIAL FOR DOING SUCH AN INCREDIBLE JOB. YOUR GROWTH IS OUTSTANDING, AND FUTURE UNLIMITED!!!”
Trump just posted a Washington Times piece on Truth Social, resuming his active social media engagement “Their Stock took a BIG PLUNGE without US!”
