In a bombshell reversal, comedian and libertarian commentator Dave Smith has pulled the plug on his previous support for Donald Trump—and he’s not stopping there. Smith, who once threw his backing behind the 45th president during the 2024 election, is now calling for Trump’s impeachment, accusing him of abandoning the very principles that defined his America First movement.
Smith, a frequent guest on The Joe Rogan Experience and a leading voice among libertarian circles, previously supported Trump largely due to his vow to free Ross Ulbricht, the Silk Road founder who has become a libertarian cause célèbre. But in a sharp U-turn, Smith appeared on Breaking Points with Saagar Enjeti and Krystal Ball on June 16 and made his disillusionment with Trump painfully clear.
“The time for negotiations was before this,” Smith said. “And so, yeah, Donald Trump looks… and man, I supported him this last year.”
In a candid moment, Smith admitted that his support for Trump was misguided. “I apologize for doing so. It was a bad calculation. At the time, it seemed like the right one,” he confessed. But what followed was even more stunning.
