Vice President Kamala Harris finally addressed the press on Thursday after an 18-day silence since being named the presumptive Democratic nominee for president. This marks her first formal engagement with the media since becoming the likely Democratic candidate, a period during which she had notably avoided press conferences and in-depth interviews.
Harris spoke to reporters at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport following a campaign event in Michigan. Her comments came just hours before former President Donald Trump held an extended press conference at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. The vice president responded to criticisms about her lack of media engagement, telling Fox News, “I’ve talked to my team. I want us to get an interview scheduled before the end of the month.”

The vice president also addressed the contentious issue of presidential debates, confirming that she had secured an agreement with Trump to participate in at least one debate before the November 5 election. “Well, I’m glad that he’s finally agreed to a debate on Sept. 10,” Harris said. She added that she would be open to additional debates if necessary, signaling her willingness to engage more directly with Trump in the lead-up to the election.
