GOP Rep. BACKSTABS Trump—Texas Map War Begins

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

Kiley insists his bill is about “stopping a damaging redistricting war,” but critics argue that the real motivation is far more self-serving. With California Democrats threatening Republican districts through backdoor deals and map manipulations, Kiley’s bill conveniently halts everyone — including his own political enemies — from making any more moves.

“Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right”

In an interview defending his bill, Kiley took aim at California’s own gerrymandering games, particularly those pushed by far-left Governor Gavin Newsom. Kiley cited the governor’s brazen effort to sideline California’s independent redistricting commission last year — a move that even liberal voters rejected as too extreme.

“You have politicians saying ‘oh, we’re going to defeat these people not through having a free and fair election but just by moving some lines around on a map.’ California voters very clearly said that’s not the way it should be done,” Kiley stated.

Still, when asked why he would target Texas Republicans — who are following through on promises to level the playing field after years of Democrat map manipulation — Kiley doubled down, asking, “why two wrongs make a right?”

“I want to be clear: I don’t love what Texas is doing either, although there are some pretty key differences,” he said, citing California’s independent commission and the deep partisan divide that defines his state’s political structure.

Texas on the Verge of a Red Wave — Now on Pause

Texas Republicans had been gearing up for a redistricting offensive that could dramatically reshape the congressional battlefield. Their plan? Draw new districts that favor conservative candidates and weaken the Democrats’ urban stranglehold in key areas — a strategy that would likely result in at least five additional GOP-held seats.

But Kiley’s bill, if passed, would stop that effort in its tracks — and conservatives aren’t happy. For many, this was finally a moment of political payback, a legal yet strategic move to reverse years of Democrat-engineered district lines in states like Illinois, Maryland, and California.

Texas Democrats Flee State — Again

Adding fuel to the fire, Texas Democrats have once again resorted to running away from their duties. Over the weekend, state lawmakers packed their bags and fled to Illinois to block a quorum vote on the redistricting plan.

This isn’t the first time Texas Democrats have left the state to dodge accountability, but it might be the most egregious yet. Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has reportedly provided cover for the runaway legislators, as Governor Greg Abbott prepares to rain down legal hell.

Abbott didn’t mince words, threatening civil and criminal penalties and calling for extradition of those who fled.

Kiley Faces Backlash From the Right

For conservatives hoping to expand Trump’s influence in the House, Kiley’s bill is more than just a political miscalculation — it’s viewed as a betrayal.

At a time when Democrats are fighting tooth and nail to maintain their grip on Congress, Republicans need to be unified in their efforts. Yet here comes a California Republican, not only siding with procedural fairness but doing so at the expense of GOP momentum in one of the most critical battleground states.

The question conservatives are now asking: Why is Kevin Kiley protecting the Democrats’ map — and why now?

If this bill gains traction, expect the backlash to grow louder. With 2026 fast approaching, the fight for the House — and for the soul of the GOP — is just getting started.
