In a stunning moment during a recent panel discussion, Jonah Goldberg, editor-in-chief of The Dispatch and well-known Never-Trumper, floated a chilling scenario: Democrats could one day deploy the military to seize firearms from law-abiding Americans.
The comment came as Goldberg tried to draw comparisons between former President Donald Trump’s push to restore law and order in crime-ridden cities and what Democrats might do if given the same level of authority.
At the heart of the conversation was Chicago, a city long plagued by violent crime and run almost exclusively by Democrats for decades.
Mayor Brandon Johnson, one of the city’s most left-wing leaders yet, recently signed an executive order called the Protecting Chicago Initiative. He claims it is designed to prevent the Trump administration from sending in the National Guard to secure the city.
