A Georgia family is demanding answers after a police officer fatally shot their beloved young donkey during a late-night search for a missing child.
The animal, a one-year-old donkey named HeeHaw, was killed early Sunday morning at Elsberry Riding and Farm in Rockmart, Georgia. His owner, Hannah Israel, says the animal was inside his own pasture when officers encountered him.
The shooting has triggered a wave of public outrage, while the Cedartown Police Department has placed the unidentified officer on administrative leave pending an investigation. The Georgia Department of Agriculture’s Law Enforcement Division has also been asked to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
