Could California finally see a conservative revival? Former Fox News host and political strategist Steve Hilton just dropped a political bombshell—he’s “seriously considering running” for governor of the deep-blue Golden State in 2026.
In a recent interview with “2Way Tonight” host Mark Halperin, Hilton hinted at a decision timeline that’s far sooner than expected. “The way I’m putting it right now is, Kamala Harris is telling us that she is too, almost using that exact same language, and that she’ll make a decision by the end of the summer,” Hilton said. “I’ll make mine much sooner than that.”

That statement alone could shake up California’s political scene. If Hilton jumps in, he’d be the first real Republican contender with national name recognition to enter the race—and possibly face off with Vice President Kamala Harris herself.

In the years since, Democrats have had a stranglehold on the state, with Jerry Brown serving from 2011 to 2019 and Gavin Newsom taking over after that. Newsom, who dodged a recall attempt in 2021, will be term-limited in 2026—creating a rare opening in the blue fortress.
