A devastating wildfire in Los Angeles has claimed the life of Australian-born former child actor Rory Sykes, adding to the growing death toll of the region’s worst wildfire crisis in recent memory. The 32-year-old, known for his role in the late-’90s British TV series Kiddy Kapers, died when his Malibu home was engulfed by flames earlier this week. The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office confirmed the total fatalities have now reached 16.
Sykes, who lived with cerebral palsy and had limited mobility, was unable to escape his family’s 17-acre estate as the Palisades fire swept through the area. His mother, Shelley Sykes, shared the heartbreaking news on social media, writing, “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son [Rory Sykes] to the Malibu fires yesterday.”

Shelley further criticized the response to the fire, noting that firefighters struggled to access water to combat the flames. “They couldn’t get the water they needed,” she claimed, highlighting a critical failure in emergency response that has sparked outrage among local residents.
