Florida Poll: Trump’s Puerto Rican Support Soars!

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

The survey further reports that Cuban Americans, traditionally more conservative, continue to be strong supporters of Trump. The poll found Trump with a commanding 28-point lead among Cuban American respondents in Florida. This enthusiasm among Cuban Americans aligns with broader Republican success with the group, but the surprising uptick in support from Puerto Rican voters stands out as a remarkable shift from 2020, when most Puerto Ricans backed Biden.

“Trump lost Puerto Ricans in Florida 66-34 in 2020. PA results were similar. The most recent poll that dropped from Cygnal, conducted mostly after the Madison Square Garden rally, shows Donald Trump winning Florida Puerto Ricans by two points,” elections analyst Red Eagle Politics posted on X. “This is disastrous for Democrats.”

The news hasn’t gone unnoticed by Democratic campaign leaders, who quickly seized on Hinchcliffe’s joke in an effort to sway Puerto Rican voters back. The Harris-Walz campaign has launched a series of ads directed at Puerto Rican voters in Florida, attempting to counterbalance the growing favor Trump has found with the group. Various celebrities have also added their voices, urging Puerto Rican voters to distance themselves from Trump.

Yet, efforts to turn the joke into an effective attack on Trump have been largely unsuccessful. Democratic leaders’ focus on the remark has been overshadowed by recent controversial comments from President Biden, who, in a CNN interview, reportedly referred to Trump supporters as human “garbage.” Although the White House has since tried to walk back the comment — and even reportedly edited the interview transcript — the incident has fueled resentment among Trump supporters, likely bolstering his base rather than weakening it.

This poll is only the latest signal that Latino support for Trump may be growing in key battleground states. Trump’s rise in popularity among Puerto Rican Americans in Florida is particularly noteworthy, as the community’s support was instrumental in Biden’s 2020 victory. For Trump to now have a lead, even by a slight margin, marks a significant setback for Democrats, who have historically relied on strong Latino backing in the state.

If Trump’s newfound support among Puerto Rican and Latino voters continues, it could reshape the electoral landscape in Florida and beyond. Democrats, meanwhile, face an uphill battle to win back this critical demographic, especially as recent comments from President Biden have seemingly alienated portions of his own base. The days ahead will reveal whether Trump’s strategy to court Latino voters will continue to bear fruit as Election Day approaches, but for now, the momentum appears to be shifting in the GOP’s favor.
