In a move that has Democrats shaking and D.C. insiders buzzing, President Donald J. Trump has teased what could be one of the most historic and symbolic moments of his post-presidency — a personal inspection of the legendary gold vault at Fort Knox.
Speaking to a crowd of Republican governors on Thursday evening, Trump once again floated the idea that he may soon visit the heavily guarded U.S. Bullion Depository in Kentucky — the first such inspection by a public figure since 1943.
“We’re gonna go into Fort Knox to make sure the gold is there,” Trump declared.
This isn’t the first time Trump has raised eyebrows over America’s gold reserves. Back in February, he surprised reporters with similar remarks:
“You know that? We’re gonna go into Fort Knox. Do you know about that?”
“One of the things we do want to look — I mean, we hope everything’s fine with Fort Knox, but we’re gonna go to Fort Knox, the fabled Fort Knox, to make sure the gold is there.”
