“Fight This Virus” — Justice Declares War on Democrats

A political earthquake just hit Pennsylvania’s highest court after longtime Democrat and Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice David Wecht publicly announced that he is severing ties with the Democratic Party and becoming an independent voter.

The stunning move is sending shockwaves through Pennsylvania politics because Wecht is not some low-level activist or former officeholder quietly fading into retirement. He is a sitting justice on the state’s highest court, a man who once held a leadership role inside the Democratic Party itself, and someone whose family name has been tied to Pennsylvania Democrats for decades.

In a sharply worded statement released in his personal capacity, Wecht made clear that his break from the party stems from what he described as growing tolerance for antisemitism among Democrats and progressive activists.

“From 1998 to 2001, years that preceded my judicial career, I served as Vice-Chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. In the quarter century that has passed since then, the Democratic Party has changed. Nazi tattoos, jihadist chants, intimidation and attacks at synagogues, and other hateful anti-Jewish invective and actions are minimized, ignored, and even coddled,” Wecht wrote.
