A neighborhood Fourth of July celebration in North Charleston, South Carolina, descended into chaos Saturday evening after violence erupted, leaving two police officers injured and prompting multiple arrests.
Authorities say the incident unfolded during a city-approved block party in the Chicora-Cherokee community. As videos of the confrontation spread widely online, the North Charleston Police Department released a statement through the CRIMEWATCH platform detailing what officers encountered while responding to the scene.
“A neighborhood block party had been permitted by the city of North Charleston in advance of the holiday,” the department stated. “Earlier that day, police leadership met with event organizers to discuss the event, including traffic and parking plans to ensure emergency vehicles could safely access the area if needed.”
