A major terrorist plot targeting the White House during one of the highest-profile events of the weekend was stopped before it could be carried out, according to FBI Director Kash Patel, who announced Tuesday that federal authorities had taken five suspects into custody following a multi-state investigation.
The alleged attack, which authorities say could have resulted in mass casualties, was reportedly designed to unfold in two coordinated waves during Sunday’s UFC Freedom 250 event on the White House South Lawn. According to multiple reports, the suspects intended to combine explosive-laden drones with sniper teams in what investigators believe was a carefully orchestrated assault aimed at creating maximum devastation.
Patel credited the success of the operation to the swift work of federal investigators and law enforcement partners before the plan could move beyond the planning stage.
In a statement posted on X, Patel praised the coordinated effort that led to the arrests.
