From Marine to Militant
Once a U.S. Marine Corps reservist, Song’s fall from grace began with an “other than honorable” discharge due to misconduct. That expulsion appears to have sent him spiraling into extremist territory, where he reportedly joined the Elm Fork John Brown Gun Club—an armed far-left group linked to Antifa operations in Texas.
In 2023, Song made headlines when he was sued for allegedly attacking Christian demonstrators at a drag show in Fort Worth. Though charges were previously dropped in unrelated violent incidents, the warning signs had been piling up for years.
Independent journalist Tayler Hansen confirmed that Song was well known in far-left activist circles. “He was always armed to the teeth ‘protecting’ all-ages drag shows to prevent me from infiltrating them and exposing the child grooming that was taking place,” Hansen wrote. In one documented encounter, Song reportedly told Hansen, “We’ll keep an eye out for you.”
Precision-Planned Attack
Authorities revealed that the ambush on law enforcement was anything but spontaneous. Using encrypted chat apps, Song and his cohorts mapped out the ICE facility and local police stations, shared tactical photographs, and coordinated every move like a military operation.
Song himself acquired four firearms used in the assault, including AR-15-style rifles. On July 4th, his group launched a multi-pronged attack: fireworks, graffiti, and strategic positioning aimed at luring officers outside.
When a local officer responded to the chaos, he was met with a bullet to the neck from Song, who had taken cover in nearby woods. Miraculously, the officer survived. Meanwhile, another militant fired dozens of rounds at unarmed correctional officers—only stopped by a malfunctioning rifle.
Radical Connections and a Chilling Manifesto
Song wasn’t acting in isolation. Federal documents link him to the Party for Socialism and Liberation and fellow radicals carrying manifestos calling for “insurrectionary anarchy.” One such document titled “Organizing for Attack!” openly called for violent, loosely organized cells to spark a rebellion.
These weren’t misguided youths or misinformed activists. These were well-armed radicals plotting an insurrection on American soil—on Independence Day, no less.
Facing Justice
Now in custody, Song is staring down a long list of federal and state charges, including attempted murder of federal officers, assault on a public servant, and engaging in organized criminal activity. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
The FBI had previously offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to his capture, and Texas Governor Greg Abbott added another $10,000. Abbott didn’t mince words: “The targeted attacks against our federal law enforcement officers is a crime and must end. Criminals such as Benjamin Hanil Song will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
Authorities also apprehended two additional suspects, John Phillip Thomas and Lynette Read Sharp, for aiding Song’s escape. Thomas confessed to driving Song between safe houses.
The Bigger Picture
This wasn’t just an isolated event—it’s part of a larger, disturbing trend. For years, left-wing rhetoric has vilified law enforcement, encouraging a hostile climate toward ICE, police, and federal agents. That toxic atmosphere has emboldened radicals like Song.
These militants despise everything America stands for. They chose July 4th for a reason—they wanted to desecrate the very ideals of liberty, patriotism, and national unity.
But their message was answered loud and clear.
Federal agents, local law enforcement, and the FBI worked tirelessly to take them down. And they did.
Song thought he could vanish into a network of sympathizers. He thought the system wouldn’t catch him.
He thought wrong.
Let this be a warning to other would-be domestic terrorists: If you come after America’s law enforcement, justice will find you.
