A newly released batch of emails from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s tenure in government is raising eyebrows, suggesting the former top health official may have been cautious—or even secretive—about sharing details of his work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The emails, made public this week by the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, appear to contradict testimony Fauci previously gave to Congress. Lawmakers are now demanding clarification as pressure mounts over the origins of the virus and government funding tied to the Wuhan lab.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) has sent Fauci the emails along with a letter insisting that he return to Capitol Hill to answer questions. The Kentucky Republican highlighted what he described as discrepancies between Fauci’s statements under oath and the content of the emails.
