In a revealing analysis of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, a 2019 report sheds light on a significant number of beneficiaries with arrest histories. Initiated under the Obama administration, the program was designed to protect the children of unauthorized immigrants from deportation. However, findings reveal that 79,398 DACA recipients have been allowed to remain in the U.S. despite having arrest records.
The spectrum of offenses varies widely among these individuals. A majority of the arrests involve driving violations (excluding Driving While Intoxicated) and immigration-related issues. More severe crimes also feature prominently, including theft, drug offenses, assault, battery, and burglary. Additionally, arrests for heinous crimes like rape, arson, murder, child pornography, and kidnapping were also noted in the report, with some individuals having been arrested over ten times.
