Newly disclosed text messages from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s government-issued phone are drawing renewed attention to what federal health officials privately discussed about COVID-19 vaccines and pregnancy during the early months of the vaccination campaign.
The messages show Fauci privately raising a theoretical concern about the possibility of miscarriage following the second dose of an mRNA vaccine, particularly during the first trimester. The exchange took place in January 2021, when the Biden administration was beginning its aggressive nationwide vaccination effort.
At the time, Fauci was serving as a prominent White House COVID-19 adviser. The conversation also included then-CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky and Dr. Vivek Murthy, who would later serve as President Joe Biden’s surgeon general.
