In a recent fiery exchange on social media, David Hogg, the activist known for his staunch anti-gun stance, encountered pushback after criticizing Representative Thomas Massie’s legislative efforts to dismantle the Federal Reserve System. Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, has introduced legislation that seeks to abolish the Federal Reserve Board of Governors and the twelve Federal Reserve banks, effectively repealing the Federal Reserve Act of 1913.
The proposed bill, known as the Federal Reserve Board Abolition Act (HR 8421), is not new to Congress. It echoes previous attempts by Texas Republican Ron Paul, first introduced in 1999 and most recently in 2013. Massie’s bill aims to address what he describes as the adverse effects of the Federal Reserve’s policies, particularly in relation to inflation. “Americans are suffering under crippling inflation, and the Federal Reserve is to blame,” Massie stated. He attributes the current economic strain to the Federal Reserve’s actions during the COVID-19 pandemic, which involved creating trillions of dollars and loaning them to the Treasury Department.
