According to Benz, the U.S. State Department played a pivotal role in pressuring Brazil to utilize specific semiconductors in their voting machines, while the CIA allegedly pressured populist candidate Jair Bolsonaro to accept the election results that saw him narrowly lose to the leftist candidate, Lula da Silva.
Benz, who now heads the Foundation for Freedom Online, detailed these concerns in a recent tweet, which followed an interview he had with Tucker Carlson. During the interview, Benz accused the Biden administration of not only favoring Bolsonaro’s opponent but actively working against the former president’s reelection efforts. According to Benz, the State Department was involved in promoting semiconductors made by Nuvoton, a Taiwanese company, specifically for use in Brazil’s electronic voting machines.
