On Friday, Michigan officials revealed that a shocking 26,662 previously unreported votes were discovered across four counties, sparking renewed concerns over election integrity. The discrepancy comes as Michigan continues to face scrutiny due to a series of issues in vote counting, with some conservative figures questioning the reliability of the state’s Secretary of State.
In Kent County, a former Republican stronghold, canvassers found 13,795 uncounted votes. Meanwhile, Kalamazoo County, known for housing Western Michigan University and Kalamazoo College, revealed an additional 6,691 unreported ballots. In Calhoun County, officials attributed the 4,602 missing votes to a “software glitch.” Further north in Leelanau County, an initial count suggested Democratic wins in most races. However, a post-election review uncovered 1,574 votes, flipping several races in favor of Republican candidates and reshaping the political landscape.

Leelanau County’s unexpected change in results had significant consequences, particularly in the tight races for the Board of Commissioners and other key local offices. Before the additional votes were included, Democrats appeared to have swept Republican opponents. But when the final votes were tallied, Republicans emerged victorious in multiple races. One key position, the drain commissioner, flipped dramatically, with Republican Tim O’Non overtaking Democrat Faith Hoekstra after the final count.
