They blamed AI for rising monthly utility bills in places like Maryland and Ohio.
They even tied the issue to Democratic election victories in Virginia and New Jersey.
The message was simple and relentless.
AI is hurting working families.
Big Tech must be stopped.
And government needs to step in.
But Burgum saw through it immediately.
Burgum calls out the lie on national television
Appearing on Fox Business’ The Bottom Line, Burgum refused to play along with the talking points.
“When I see those headlines, I don’t want to use the overword term, but it is fake news because there’s no truth behind that,” Burgum stated.
That single sentence cut straight through months of media hysteria.
As Interior Secretary and Chairman of President Trump’s National Energy Dominance Council, Burgum came armed with real data, not political slogans.
The numbers Democrats never mention
Burgum pointed to states that actually prepared for growth.
“States like Texas, North Dakota, Oklahoma added so much power that pricing has stayed flat or even gone down in many cases,” Burgum explained.
The results speak for themselves.
North Dakota absorbed nearly a 40 percent surge in electricity demand from data centers and still saw prices drop by three cents per kilowatt-hour.
Texas handled a 15 percent jump in AI-driven demand with prices rising only two percent over five years, far below inflation.
Even Northern Virginia, home to the largest data center concentration in the world, saw prices fall while demand climbed.
That is not an AI problem.
That is an energy policy difference.
Red states built. Blue states blocked.

Red states expanded power generation.
Blue states shut it down.

“Places like New York went heavily into highly intermittent, very expensive, subsidized, non-secure sources of energy, they’re the ones with the high prices,” Burgum said.
While Republican-led states invested in reliable energy like natural gas, coal, and nuclear, Democrat-controlled states chased ideological climate goals.
The results were predictable.
New Jersey saw electricity prices rise nearly 20 percent in just five years despite having relatively few data centers.
California experienced electricity price increases more than six times higher than inflation.
The PJM market serving the Northeast saw capacity costs explode by over 500 percent in a single year.
None of that had anything to do with AI.
The real scam behind the scare
Burgum exposed the trick Democrats rely on to confuse voters.
“The liberal eco-terrorists are describing if demand goes up, that’s going to drive prices up.”
That claim only holds true if leaders refuse to build new power generation.
And that is exactly what blue states have done by blocking natural gas pipelines, delaying nuclear projects, and shutting down reliable plants.
Burgum laid out the future clearly.
“We’re going to have red states attracting hundreds of billions of dollars of capital for new manufacturing,” Burgum predicted.
Meanwhile, blue states will continue pushing businesses away with unreliable and overpriced energy systems.
AI is the future Democrats want to control

As Burgum put it perfectly, “The arsonists that created the inflation, they created this fire of inflation. Now they’re saying they’re going to be the ones that put it out.”
