In a scandal that’s shaking Beacon Hill, Massachusetts State Representative Chris Flanagan—a Democrat representing Dennis Port—has been slapped with serious federal charges and a judge’s strict new orders after prosecutors alleged he embezzled tens of thousands of dollars to bankroll his personal vices and political ambitions.
Flanagan, who is accused of siphoning off over $36,000 from a former employer, is now barred from gambling, opening new credit lines over $5,000, or running up any credit card bills beyond that amount without explicit court permission. A federal judge formalized the restrictions after a recent filing by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
According to prosecutors, the Democrat lawmaker didn’t just take the money—he allegedly created fake identities to cover his tracks and spent the stolen funds on personal bills, political expenses, and even “psychic services.”
