A Republican congressman has confirmed that a Democratic mayor is now facing a federal probe for allegedly aiding illegal immigrants in escaping immigration enforcement efforts.
Freddie O’Connell, the progressive mayor of Nashville, Tennessee, is reportedly being scrutinized by authorities over claims he provided assistance to undocumented immigrants and may have interfered with a U.S. Customs and Immigration Enforcement (ICE) investigation.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN), a staunch conservative voice in Congress, revealed that both the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the House Judiciary Committee are actively investigating what could be a “criminal enterprise” tied to federal funding and the mayor’s conduct.
Speaking at the Tennessee State Capitol, Ogles did not hold back: “We’ve heard it: the individuals that the mayor is standing with are murderers, rapists, drug traffickers, sexual predators, child traffickers…the list goes on.”
