For weeks, former President Donald Trump has been pressing to secure Greenland, setting European leaders into full-blown panic. Threats of tariffs, public exposure of private messages from Emmanuel Macron, and forcing NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to grovel for a meeting all played into his strategy.
Then, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump revealed a deal framework that gives the United States exactly what it needs—while letting European nations pretend they had a choice.
Trump announced on Truth Social Wednesday that he and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte “formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region.”
The announcement followed Trump’s assurance to the Davos crowd that he would not use military force to seize Greenland. “This solution, if consummated, will be a great one for the United States of America, and all NATO Nations,” he wrote.
