Parents nationwide have been fighting to protect their children from sexually explicit materials in public school libraries. Yet in Massachusetts, Democrats are doubling down against parental rights—and the results are shocking.
The Massachusetts Senate recently passed a bill that makes it nearly impossible for parents to remove inappropriate books from schools. The measure, which cleared the Senate 35-3 in November, now sits before the House Committee on Ways and Means.
State Senator Julian Cyr sponsored the legislation, titled An Act regarding free expression, alongside 18 Democrats and three Republicans. Supporters claim it protects schools from “politically motivated book bans.” But parents see it differently: they argue it robs them of the fundamental right to shield children from sexualized content in taxpayer-funded schools.
The bill mandates that school districts follow American Library Association (ALA) standards for book selection, creating layers of bureaucracy that effectively block parents from challenging objectionable materials.
