Virginia’s Democratic nominee for Attorney General, Jay Jones, is facing a political firestorm after newly uncovered text messages reportedly show him threatening to kill a Republican colleague and desecrate his grave.

According to National Review, Jones, a former Virginia delegate now running against Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares, made the shocking comments in August 2022 during a text exchange with GOP Delegate Carrie Coyner.
Jones allegedly wrote that he would give then–Republican House Speaker Todd Gilbert “two bullets to the head” and that he would “piss on [his] grave.” The disturbing threats came months after Jones had left the Virginia House of Delegates.
“I will go to their funerals to piss on their graves… [to] send them out awash in something,” Jones reportedly texted, referring to Gilbert and other Republicans. He even added, “If I had Gilbert and two dictators in front of me and a gun with two bullets… Gilbert gets two bullets to the head.”
