Bucks County, Pennsylvania, has found itself at the center of a political firestorm after Democratic Commissioner Diane Marseglia openly admitted to defying a ruling from the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Marseglia, who previously appeared unapologetic about her actions, is now attempting to soften her stance following widespread outrage and calls for accountability.
The controversy erupted after Marseglia and fellow Democratic Commissioner Bob Harvie voted to count undated mail ballots, a move the Pennsylvania Supreme Court had explicitly ruled against. According to the Bucks County GOP, their actions were designed to benefit Democratic Senator Bob Casey. “Democrat Commissioners Diane Marseglia and Bob Harvie voted today to count illegal ballots, against Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling, in an attempt to aid former Senator Bob Casey,” the local GOP declared last Thursday.

What made matters worse for Marseglia was her brazen admission of knowingly violating the law. In a shocking statement, she dismissed the importance of judicial precedent and justified her decision as a way to provoke judicial review. “We all know that precedent by a court doesn’t matter anymore in this country. And people violate laws anytime they want. So, for me, if I violate this law, it’s because I want a court to pay attention to it,” she said.
