After the raucous GOP debate, California Governor Gavin Newsom, renowned for his firebrand Republican character, didn’t hold back. He skillfully linked it to the “XFL” and “JV” in contrast to the flawlessly run campaign of the former President Donald Trump.
When prompted to respond, Newsom is candid.
“I think it will be clear that Trump comes out the dominant force of this debate. I meant this is the XFL, this is JV. I mean, honestly, this is maybe – maybe – a vice-presidential debate. These guys are getting lapped by Donald Trump,” remarked the Democrat from California.
Trump has a 60% popularity rating, which is attracting GOP voters. While his opponents were making a scene, he was deftly speaking to Michigan’s striking autoworkers. The Biden campaign is feeling bewildered and outmanoeuvred as a result of this strategic shift. Trump is already considering the general election while dismissing those who on the podium last night.
Before the important races in Iowa and New Hampshire, Gov. Newsom confidently questioned the other contenders, hinting that their chances of influencing the GOP primary were virtually nonexistent.
“It’s not even close, it’s not even interesting. And I think what’s most interesting to me is, do they recognize that?… Either these guys come after the frontrunner and distinguish themselves or otherwise they’re wasting everybody’s time,” he snarked.

Despite months of public speculation that he may challenge President Biden in the Democratic primary, Governor Newsom finally decided against the idea, stating that his party should “get behind” the ailing incumbent who is trailing President Trump in many of the most recent head-to-head surveys. President Trump’s top adversary, Ron DeSantis, will have the opportunity to advance himself in November when Newsom, who has assumed the position of attack dog, debates DeSantis on Fox News.

Although President Trump hasn’t yet expressed a view on the debate, his behavior on Truth Social has helped the candidates lose. On his account, there were posts from DeSantis supporting the border wall, memes making fun of Christie’s body, and a poll indicating that Trump won the debate even though he wasn’t there.
