Longtime Democrat Congressman Al Green’s political career appears to have come crashing down Tuesday night after Texas voters rejected the controversial lawmaker in a heated Democratic primary runoff.
Green, a fixture in Washington politics for more than two decades and one of President Donald Trump’s loudest critics in Congress, was defeated by 37-year-old Democrat Christian Menefee in Texas’ 18th Congressional District runoff election.
The loss marks a dramatic fall for the 78-year-old congressman, whose time in office became increasingly defined by partisan theatrics, repeated anti-Trump stunts, and headline-grabbing controversies.
