Following the fiery confrontation, Haltbakk Bunkers released an inflammatory statement on social media, declaring its refusal to supply fuel to American forces in Norwegian ports. The statement, which quickly gained attention, read:
“We have today been witnesses to the biggest shitshow ever presented ‘live on TV’ by the current American president and his vice president. Huge credit to the president of Ukraine restraining himself and for keeping calm even though USA put on a backstabbing TV show. It made us sick. Short and sweet. As a result, we have decided to immediately STOP as fuel provider to American forces in Norway and their ships calling Norwegian ports.

Company owner Gunnar Gran made it clear that this was a purely political move. In an interview with Norwegian business outlet Kystens Næringsliv, Gran openly admitted he would not sell “a single liter” of fuel to U.S. forces “until Trump is finished.”
Gran’s declaration was initially met with applause from anti-Trump activists across Europe, who hailed his decision as an act of defiance. But the celebration was short-lived.
The backlash was swift, and soon, the company’s reckless political stunt was facing widespread criticism. Realizing the gravity of its mistake, Haltbakk Bunkers quietly deleted its incendiary statement—hoping to avoid further humiliation.
The Norwegian government wasted no time in distancing itself from the controversy. Defense Minister Tore O. Sandvik issued a formal statement reaffirming that the Norwegian government does not support Haltbakk Bunkers’ actions and that U.S. forces will continue to receive all necessary supplies and support in the country.
Sandvik’s statement read:
“We have seen reports raising concerns about support for US Navy vessels in Norway. This is not in line with the Norwegian government’s policy. I can confirm that all requested support has been provided.

In other words, despite one company’s attempt to score political points, Norway is well aware that severing military ties with the United States would be a disastrous mistake.
Haltbakk Bunkers thought it could use its influence to send a message, but instead, it got a brutal lesson in geopolitical reality. The U.S. remains Norway’s strongest ally, and a single leftist-run company was never going to change that.
While the European left cheers on symbolic resistance against Trump, the Norwegian government has made its position clear: it won’t jeopardize its strategic partnership with the United States over a childish political stunt. And as for Haltbakk Bunkers, the damage to its reputation has already been done.
