The walls are closing in around Washington’s old guard — and now former President Barack Obama is suddenly finding himself dragged back into the center of the political firestorm he thought was long behind him.
Former Secret Service agent and ex-FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino delivered a blistering warning this week after Obama took direct aim at President Donald Trump and his Justice Department during a television appearance that immediately ignited backlash across conservative circles.
What started as another anti-Trump media hit quickly exploded into something much bigger.
Obama appeared on a late-night program hosted by longtime Trump critic Stephen Colbert and accused the Trump administration of improperly using the Department of Justice to target political enemies.
“The White House shouldn’t be able to direct the attorney general to go around prosecuting whoever,” Obama said during the interview. “The idea is that the attorney general is the people’s lawyer. It’s not the president’s consigliere.”
