President Trump walked back into Washington fully aware the swamp was as murky as ever. What he didn’t anticipate was just how quickly entrenched bureaucrats would scramble to sabotage even the simplest reform he put forward. And now, their staggering incompetence is splashed across the country in a mess no one can ignore.
Earlier this year, Trump made a move every fiscally responsible American could get behind: he halted the needless production of pennies after DOGE exposed an outrageous and long-ignored problem — taxpayers were footing the bill for a coin that literally cost more to make than it was worth.
Each penny cost 3.7 cents to manufacture. Multiply that by 3.2 billion pennies, and taxpayers were set on fire for no reason at all.
Trump didn’t mince words.
“For far too long the United States has minted pennies which literally cost us more than 2 cents. This is so wasteful!” he wrote on Truth Social. “I have instructed my Secretary of the US Treasury to stop producing new pennies. Let’s rip the waste out of our great nation’s budget, even if it’s a penny at a time.”
