Trump’s Success with Latino Voters
Contrary to Democratic assumptions, Trump’s focus on border security and economic growth resonated with many Latino voters. In the 2020 election, Trump secured 46% of the Hispanic vote and dominated 14 of the 18 counties along Texas’ southern border. By emphasizing secure borders and job creation over progressive identity politics, Trump reshaped the Republican coalition to include working-class Latinos and Black voters.
As Biden continues to double down on policies criticized as “woke,” Republicans say he risks further alienating these key demographics ahead of the 2024 election.
Biden’s Latest Move: Selling Off Border Wall Materials
In a move that critics have labeled sabotage, the Biden administration has begun auctioning off materials intended for the construction of the border wall. Trump, speaking from Mar-a-Lago, called out the administration’s actions as underhanded and potentially criminal.
“The [Biden] Administration is trying to sell it for five cents on the dollar, knowing that we’re getting ready to put it up,” Trump stated. “What they’re doing is almost a criminal act. They know we’re going to use it.”
Trump warned that replacing the materials would cost taxpayers significantly more. “If we don’t have it, we’re going to have to rebuild it. And it’ll cost double what it cost years ago,” he added.
Ted Cruz and Texas Leaders Push Back
Senator Ted Cruz didn’t mince words when addressing Biden’s actions, warning federal officials that selling the materials could lead to legal consequences.
“To every official at DHS, or anywhere else, who approves selling off incredibly expensive portions of the border wall for $5 a piece, you are engaged in theft of government property, and you should expect the DOJ to prosecute you,” Cruz stated.
Texas leaders, including Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, are taking matters into their own hands. Patrick announced plans to bid on the materials and store them for future use by Trump. “I will bid on all of that wall, and we will buy it in Texas, and we will give it to Donald Trump,” Patrick told Laura Ingraham. “I’ve got a billion dollars in my pocket to do it.”

Backing Patrick’s plan, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham offered state land to store the materials, labeling Biden’s actions “shameful.”
A Clash of Visions for America’s Border
As Trump looks to rebuild the border wall if he retakes office, Biden’s actions are seen by many Republicans as a deliberate attempt to obstruct those plans. For conservatives, the border wall represents not just security but a commitment to the rule of law and the will of the people.
With the 2024 election looming, the border wall debate underscores the stark differences between Biden’s and Trump’s visions for America’s future. Whether Biden’s decisions will energize his base or further alienate key voters remains to be seen.
