PNC Financial Services Group said on March 2 that it was cutting relations with MxM News. Donald Trump Jr. reportedly discussed the subject at CPAC and said that the “cancel culture” was to blame for this shift in strategy.

Trump Jr. referred to the choice as “weaponization of corporate America.” Customers of the bank were surprised to receive a letter from PNC informing them that their accounts had been closed and informing them that a cashier’s check had been delivered for payment. While there was much conjecture about political intentions, PNC vehemently disputed such claims, maintaining that their choice was solely based on internal evaluations. “Recognize[s] and respect[s] that [its] customers and [its] employees hold a wide range of political beliefs.”
On March 3, PNC responded to Donald Trump Jr.’s charge of prejudice by reiterating that the account cancellation had nothing to do with politics and was the result of a technical mistake. They were able to correct the error and quickly restore his access after doing more research.
After accusations of them closing the accounts of well-known conservative activists appeared in 2019, JPMorgan Chase found themselves embroiled in a fiery dispute. Enrique Tarrio, the organization’s head and one of these account holders, informed media outlets that when he questioned bank employees about their choice, they were unable to explain it. This episode has simply helped to confirm widespread Conservative fears that banks are biased towards certain political beliefs.
On whether PNC Bank would still be his preferred banking provider in the wake of their latest fiasco, Donald Trump Jr. has remained silent.
