Hours after President Donald Trump cut off financial aid to Colombia and issued a stern warning to its socialist leader Gustavo Petro, the United States military has struck a major blow against a Colombian terrorist-linked drug operation.
U.S. STRIKE AUTHORIZED BY TRUMP
War Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that, acting under direct orders from President Trump, the U.S. military executed a “lethal kinetic strike” on October 17 against a vessel tied to the Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN) — a far-left guerrilla organization officially designated as a terrorist group by the U.S., Colombia, and multiple Western nations.
“On October 17th, at the direction of President Trump, the Department of War conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel affiliated with Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN), a Designated Terrorist Organization, that was operating in the USSOUTHCOM area of responsibility,” Hegseth announced in an X post.
The targeted vessel was navigating a well-known narco-smuggling route when intelligence confirmed it was transporting a significant volume of illegal narcotics. According to Hegseth, the strike killed three smugglers aboard the boat, and no U.S. personnel were harmed during the operation.
