CNN’s Nightmare Just Got Worse

Ted Turner, the outspoken media entrepreneur who reshaped television news and founded CNN, has died at the age of 87, according to a statement released Wednesday by Turner Enterprises.

Turner’s passing marks the end of an era for one of the most influential and unconventional figures in American media history. Known for his bold personality and relentless drive, he built an empire that permanently changed how news is delivered and consumed.

Born in Ohio and later based in Atlanta, Turner earned a reputation as a fearless dealmaker and media disruptor. His brash style and willingness to challenge industry norms earned him the nickname “The Mouth of the South,” a reflection of both his Southern base and his outspoken nature.

Critics questioned whether audiences would tune in to continuous news coverage without the structure of daily print deadlines or evening broadcasts.
