The left-wing media establishment has been dealt a major blow, and this time, it’s CNN at the center of the controversy. In a shocking legal defeat, a Florida jury has awarded Navy veteran Zachary Young $5 million in damages in a defamation lawsuit against the network. The verdict stems from allegations that CNN aired false and damaging claims about Young in a 2021 segment on Jake Tapper’s show.
The case began when CNN’s national security correspondent, Alex Marquardt, accused Young of extorting Afghan refugees during the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. The segment portrayed Young as being involved in a “black market scheme” that preyed on desperate individuals trying to flee the Taliban. Chyrons during the broadcast read inflammatory statements such as, “Afghans trying to flee Taliban face black markets, exorbitant fees, no guarantee of safety or success.”
