Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) set off a political firestorm on Sunday after issuing a fiery response to the federal indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James. In his MSNBC appearance, Schumer fumed that Americans — especially Democrats — “should be forcefully rising up against” the government over the charges.
His explosive comments come at a time when left-wing agitators and Antifa radicals are already clashing with law enforcement in cities like Chicago and Portland, protesting federal immigration enforcement operations.
A federal grand jury returned an indictment on Thursday charging James with multiple felonies, including Bank Fraud under 18 U.S.C. § 1344 and False Statements to a Financial Institution under 18 U.S.C. § 1014.
The indictment accuses James of falsifying mortgage information, a development that sent shockwaves through New York’s political circles. But instead of acknowledging the legal process, Schumer took aim at former President Donald Trump and claimed the charges were nothing more than political payback.
