Fresh off a wave of controversy surrounding newly elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Congressman Chip Roy has unveiled legislation that conservatives are calling one of the boldest immigration crackdowns in decades.
The Texas Republican introduced what he calls the “Measures Against Marxism’s Dangerous Adherents and Noxious Islamists Act,” a title intentionally crafted to produce the acronym “MAMDANI.” And while critics are already calling the bill provocative, Roy appears completely unfazed.
The legislation directly targets foreign nationals connected to socialist, communist, Marxist, or Islamist movements, and it goes much further than simply tightening border security.
Under Roy’s proposal, individuals affiliated with communist parties, socialist organizations, the Chinese Communist Party, or Islamist extremist movements could be denied entry into the United States altogether. Those already living in the country could face deportation proceedings, while naturalized citizens found to have concealed ideological affiliations could potentially face denaturalization.
The bill also takes aim at ideological advocacy itself. According to the proposal, foreign nationals who actively promote Marxist ideology, socialism, communism, or Islamic fundamentalism through speeches, online content, writings, or other public communications could become subject to removal or exclusion.
