In the latest volley of the high-stakes tariff war, former President Donald Trump is firing back at China with a bold declaration: Beijing made a massive blunder—and they know it.
On Friday, Trump took to Truth Social with a blistering all-caps message aimed directly at the Chinese Communist Party’s trade retaliation:
“CHINA PLAYED IT WRONG, THEY PANICKED – THE ONE THING THEY CANNOT AFFORD TO DO!”

Trump’s reaction comes after China slapped a hefty 34 percent tariff on all imports from the United States. The move, reported by NBC News, appears to be a direct response to Trump’s own announcement earlier in the week, where he imposed an identical 34 percent tariff on Chinese imports.
But here’s where the numbers really sting for Beijing—some Chinese goods were already under a 20 percent tariff. With the new measure, the total levy on some imports now hits an eye-popping 54 percent.
